Following on from yesterday, I have now 100% completed my Sauber C9 Build. Have to say, I am very pleased with the results. Apart from a minor blemish on the 'passenger' window, it looks pretty good.
Thought id get some pics with its Group C brother, my Porsche 956 model.
And a final group shot of the rest of the gang. All built by me over the last couple of years. Bonus internet points to anyone who can identify all 9 cars.

Is that the Tamiya kit? I just sold the AEG Olympia 'circuit board' version of that kit...never got around to building it. Looks awesome, very nice build.

That looks fantastic! What kind of paint are you using? The worst part about building them for me is painting.

Thanks :) Yeah its amazing how long the painting takes. Assembly is prob only a few hours. painting it took weeks.
Body was TS83 (tamiya own, metallic silver, really hard to find and expensive :/ ) with a coat of fine surface primer underneath. I used TS28 for the chassis and the rear wing. The wing mirrors and the rear light square were a weird mix of XF4 and X15, which I will never be able to remake ha.

That looks incredible. I wish I had your skill with these.
I have a few kits I've been carrying around that I refuse to do until I get good, I don't want to ruin the kit!

Well the little civic you can just see poking out in the last picture, that was the first kit i did a couple of years ago. If i'm honest, its a pretty shitty job, but it was super fun, and I learnt so much that the supra that i did second came out soooooooo much better.
I am almost tempted to get another civic kit to go alongside, but in all honesty, i like my crappy little civic ha.
I'd personally vouch for just get stuck in. Its one of those things where once your doing it you'll get much better. theres only so much you can read about technique and stuff before you just have to have a crack at it. If you get a model which you aren't massively precious about, that might be a good way to start. Spraying the bodies is the way to go though, you just cant get a good brush finish on a big surface.
All I will say is Tamiya is the way to go. Ive done an airfix kit and the quality was awful, and the little black GT86 is something like Aoshima, and the quality wasnt up to Tamiyas standard.

Beautiful collection. Is the 956 Tamiya? I need to graduate to those soon, after I finish the current Revell M3DTM I'm working on.

It is, but it comes with a Newman livery, and I couldnt get the paint finish I wanted on it. So I stuck the bodyshell in Brake Fluid to strip the paint, went and found a Jagermeister livery and viola.
Admittdely the Jagermeister livery is for a 962, so the rear wing doesnt line up properly, and its not perfect, but unless you in full anorak mode you wont notice :D

I always thought it would be cool to make one that looked battle scared from racing like a NASCAR model with some small duct tape squares on the bumper and rubber marks down the side.

Do some proper weathering, like its just survived the 24hours. Yeah I couldn't agree more, would look awesome, but I would have to admit thats beyond my ability.

I can only imagine how much work it would take, I think I would have to do it real nice like yours and then find a way to damage it without it coming apart and the detail on the kind of paintwork to show damage would be incredibly hard to replicate

On Britmodeller, there are some guys on there who do weathering on military stuff mostly, and their work is stunning. I dont know how they do it, but its simply incredible.

OO thanks :)
Umm, this was from my local model shop, as an impulse buy whilst picking up paints for the McLaren Can Am.
The rest have been a mix of amazon, ebay and just passing shops and going oooooo I like that.
The McLaren was an Ebay from Japan, because its quite rare, and VERY expensive here in the UK.
I would say ebay is the best place to get them, theres so much choice, so you can see tamiyas catalog on their own page, and then head to ebay to track it down.

Would you like/do you have authorship on LaLD btw? If not, would you like to have it? Your skills are fantastic and I'm sure all of LaLD would love to see more of your collection.

Ha nicely done. Yep the Impreza is a mark 1 from 1997 Monte Carlo.
and the WTF?? is a GT86 rocket bunny kit from speedhunters. Was an interesting kit to do, but I would struggle to describe the end result as one i'm pleased with.
100 internet points to you sir :D

HLJ is a good source. I actually have a hobby shop near me that I used to frequent for that stuff, but then they laid off the guy (who had literally been working there my whole life) who did the slot cars and model kits, so I stopped going.
